What expertise do you bring to RWC?
My dad founded the company in 1938 so I would say it’s not my expertise that I bring to the company, but expertise that he gave me. I officially began working at the company in 1957 after I earned my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona. After that I worked on my Master’s degree in real estate and a Doctoral degree in Finance from The Ohio State University. I wanted to further my education, so I achieved my Juris Doctorate (JD) from Capital University Law School and was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1983. Of course, that’s only the stuff that helps with my brokerage, consulting, and development background. For my appraisal experience, I received my MAI and SREA designations in 1976 and have been working as an active Certified General Real Estate Appraiser for almost 60 years.
That all said, I could never do all of this alone. The most important thing my dad taught me was the power of strong relationships and I owe any success I have to those relationships and partnerships I’ve made throughout the years. People like those at the Kelley Companies, Casto, Edwards, Crawford Hoying, Kaufman Development, and Wagenbrenner are just a few that have taught me a lot over the years.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Every Thursday morning I’ve played tennis for the last 50 years and I don’t plan on stopping. I also like sailing, going for walks, and of course spending quality time with my kids and grandkids. I also like to be very involved in my community. I’ve volunteered and sat on the board of numerous agencies for causes that are important to me such as the Affordable Housing Trust, Columbus Board of Education, Pilot Dogs, Center of Science and Industry (COSI), and Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA).
What do you love about Columbus?
My wife, Missy, said it best… when you ask people in Columbus how they are, we really care about the answer!
